It is a work in progress. Over the years I have installed a higher performance suspension, wider wheels and tires, a larger, stronger modified B engine, a C transmission in a B case, and a B rear end. It also has front brakes from a 1600, and rear brakes from a B GTãif one is going to go faster it follows that one must also stop faster. It is pretty much the car I want with one possible exception. An aluminum block V-8, if you please. You see, in truth, this car is a substitute for the '65 289 Cobra, British Racing Green with a black interior, that I saw at Bill Laird Ford in Hastings, NE back in 1964. It looked dangerous just sitting there, the perfect car for an adolescent to dream about. But it cost nearly as much as my father had paid for some pasture land 3 years before. That fact, combined with my chosen profession, education, mean that short of winning the lottery I will not own a Cobra. Still, my MGA is not a bad substitute, and is quite capable of getting me into every bit as much trouble as I can handle. Even so, every now and then, I still dream. The current dream was stirred to life a few months back when John Ulrich told me I should take that Buick 215 aluminum block V-8 in his garage and put it in the A. Instant Cobra! I am certain that my expression was somewhat vacuous, and I may have shrieked with maniacal laughter, deep in delightful fantasies as I drove home. Martha, took one look upon my entering the house and intuited that something was up. "Just what are you thinking?" she asked. She listened to my babbling just long enough to hear utterances of an MGA, and V-8 with 200 horsepower when she laughed. |
Annual HMRNP Holiday PartyThe middle of January found Her Majesty's Royal Nebraska Patrol and the usual band of suspects from Flatwater enjoying their annual Holiday Party at the Knolls Country Club. Over sixty members of our two clubs enjoyed the food, drinks, and fun as they caught up on stories and happenings of the past year. One of the highlights of the evening was when Ben Anderson (who on a side note received a beautiful wall clock that sounds train whistles on the hour for his birthday. Won't Beverly be surprised when she gets back from her African Holiday?) announced the passing of the HMRNP Traveling Trophy to Marge and Bob Gloe for planning two wonderful events last year and all of their help and support in years past. Ben and Beverly Anderson were the first recipients of this prestegious Award a couple of years ago. The Club Calendars and a current membership list were handed out to all who attended. If anyone still needs one please contact Sue Marshall, HMRNP Secretary. |
