Steve Witt's Beautiful Triumph Spitfire has been at the head table more than once too. Come to think of it, every British car we drag down there wins. Even Bev Anderson's Sterling. But I'll stop. I do not want to slight anyone by not mentioning their win, but I'd almost have to recite the club roster to give all of our winners proper credit. Speaking of Austin Healeys, yes, I do own one. Well, actually it belongs to my wife, and she will not let me drive it (I make her keep it outside in the alley to get even). Behind every good man is a better wife, so it follows that behind every complacent president is a wife with her own Healey. Or something like that. Jerry and Nancy Needham are down to five or six Healeys. Fred Holbert just has one, but it looks like it just came out of the box. Terry Davis has a prize winning Healey. Even Bob Shaw, bless his heart, is considering a one owner BJ8 (unless someone else wants it more). By the way, if Jim Danielson brings his Sprite to the Heartland you have to ask him the story about the wheel arches. The part about the drunken Irish auto workers is suspect, however. So you see, we do have a number of Austin-Healeys in our Flatwater club. Some even have more than a parts car, but oooh do we love them anyway! Even Sam Nafito's Cobra has Austin-Healey Sprite turn signals on it.

That's it for now, folks. This is one of the best newsletters ever and the rest is much more interesting than my drivel. See you in St. Joe and at Fish. Keep those stories and pictures coming. If all goes well, next month I'll have a story on our vacation to Viagra. Oops! Niagara. Falls, that is. Time Travel by LBCMay 19th was the chosen date for the annual trek through time beginning at the South East Community College parking lot at 84th and O and ending at James Arthur Winery for the Wine Tasting and Renaissance Festival. Making the trip this year were Bob Shaw and Martha Johnson, MGA, Bob and Barbara Stock in their beautiful Jaguar MK IX (did I put that car on my most lusted after cars list? If not please count the omission as proof of an occasional lack of lucid thought). John Ulrich and Bev Bohlke were in their TR6, Ben and Bev Anderson were in their '69 C roadster, Jay Fluehr and daughter Rachel, who is now a delightful woman of 18, arrived in the Lotus Elan. Jerry and Chrissy Conant arrived in the TR7, while Marty Klein and Marilyn Michelle who made the trip in a TD, windshield folded flat with Brooklands wind screens doing bug duty. Ryan and Renae Reis arrived in the B, but only after a Herculean effort at obtaining and then changing a rear hub and wheel for the B after having one self-destruct while adjusting the rear end of the car. Bob Weddington, driving the Spitfire, made part of the trip before he had to return to go to work, and Fred and Dee Dee Holbert were there in the Mercedes. Fred is not able to drive the Austin Healey 3000 yet, but is on the mend. It was wonderful to have you make the trip, Fred! Yvonne Shoemaker met us at the festival in her 1500 TF. |
