Jim Danielson and Terry Bucholz had driven their GT and Sprite MK II to work, and came out to wish us well. Each had to return to teach, so they could not accompany us. Ah yes, work. The curse of the drinking class!

It was a beautiful, clear morning for a drive in an open car. The temperature was perfect, the sky clear and sunny and the countryside was green. One of the joys of life is driving by a plum thicket in full blossom in an open car. The roads were smooth, the lakes a beautiful blue, and no car decided it was time to demand attention.

The people from the James Arthur Winery did the usual great job of organizing and carrying out the event. The grounds of the winery are worth the trip by themselves. The food from Billy's in Lincoln was excellent, and the wines gave witness to the fact this vineyard produces award winning products.

As we were leaving, we ran into Jim Ballard, production manager for the vineyard and organizer of the event. We thanked him for an excellent time, and promised to be back next year. Please consider joining us next year for the journey back through time.

Here's one for the newsletter...

Jack and his dad, Mike, were at the autocross last Sunday. Jack was intently watching his Dad in the Spitfire zipping through the cones.
After a spirited run, Jack runs over to his Dad and says, "Dad, when I grow up, I want to be a Spitfire driver."
Mike looks down at him and says, "You can't do both, son."

Lewis Martin's 66 BJ-8 Needs a New Home

John Ulrich received a telephone call recently from a gentleman by the name of Lewis Martin. Lewis, John related, is the owner of a '66 BJ-8 which he picked up from the factory in Abbington before touring the Europe and then bringing the car back through New York City. Lewis had told John that the car had sustained heavy damage on the left front corner when his "otherwise perfect daughter" was involved in a rear end collusion. John told me the Austin Healey was for sale. I decided to look at the car so I could better describe the car in the newsletter.

I called Lewis to arrange for the visit and told him what John had relayed to me. "He speaks the truth" Lewis replied. John had not paid him. Do wonders never cease? Arrangements were made and Marvin Marshall, Steve Espelund and I went to look at the car.
