Welcome to all of you and we hope you come and play with us again. You are invited to all our escapades. The St. Patrick's Party is at Jerry & Nancy Needham's on the 17th. I'm looking forward to it. The details are inside along with results of the Second Annual Nigel Setright Memorial Grand Prix and a little about the Swap Meet on the 11th. This is going to be a full month for your LBC Club. We have planned something every week and then some!! Hope to see all of you this month. GRANNY-DEFENDER OF JUSTICEAn elderly Florida lady did her shopping and, upon returning to her car, found four males in the act of leaving with her vehicle. She dropped her shopping bags and drew her handgun, proceeding to scream at them at the top of her voice, "I have a gun and I know how to use it! Get out of the car, you scumbags!" The four men didn't wait for a second invitation, but got out and ran like mad, whereupon the lady, somewhat shaken, proceeded to load her shopping bags into the back of the car and get into the driver's seat. She was so shaken that she could not get her key into the ignition. She tried and tried and then it dawned on her why. A few minutes later she found her own car parked four or five spaces farther down. She loaded her bags into her car and drove to the police station. The sergeant to whom she told the story nearly tore himself in two with laughter. He pointed to the other end of the counter, where four pale white males were reporting a car jacking by a mad, elderly woman described as white, less than 5' tall, glasses, and curly white hair carrying a large handgun. No charges were filed. Ah, those senior moments! |
Flatwater Austin Healey Club Nigel Setright Memorial Grand Prix
At about 3:00 p.m., on the afternoon of February 24th, twelve intreped racers (and several more‚we'll dub them 'well wishers' because that sounds better than 'those too chicken to drive') braved the weather to converge at Speed Indoor Racing for the annual event. Fees were paid, names were entered and cars were assigned in preparation for the time trials. After a 5 lap time trial period, the 15 lap feature began, with the fastest qualifiers at the front of the pack. In spite of the additional hazzard of a leak in the roof on the hairpin turn at the end of the sweeper, which ends the longest straight-a-way, there were no major incidents this year. The top finishers were Don Petrick in 1st, Bob Bredwell in 2nd and defending champion Steve Espelund in 3rd. First among the youth contengent was Ryan Hyatt, who was well served by a spirited driving style. Finishing first among the women drivers was Alicia Espelund. After the racing was finished the group adjourned to George's Red Pepper Grill, where the hot laps wilted in comparison to the barbeque and gumbo, and where trophys were presented. It was noted that Jerry Needham and Matt Foley were absent. Something about not wanting to drive in a tux and needing to be back for some work related function. Pretty weak, guys. The evening's events were summed up in a conversation between Bob Shaw and Steve Witt where it was stated, "I came with three goals‚go fast, have fun, and avoid running into anyone. I did all three." There is some talk of a second event to be held later at the Omaha venue. Whether that happens or not, the Setright Memorial will occur at about the same time next year, when hope to see more of participants, especially in the women's division. |
